Home MenuCollinsville Sustainability Plan 2020
What is Sustainability?
Sustainability is the ability to meet our current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
Why a Sustainability Plan?
The intent of the City of Collinsville Sustainability Plan is to improve the quality of life for present and future residents by considering the long-term significance of our everyday decisions. The strategies within the Sustainability Plan are designed to make the City more operationally and energy efficient.
Why is practicing Sustainability Important?
Sustainable practices support ecological, human, and economic health and vitality. Sustainability presumes that resources are finite, and should be used conservatively and wisely with a view to long-term priorities and consequences of the ways in which resources are used. In simplest terms, sustainability is about our children and our grandchildren, and the world we will leave them.
Oversight and Implementation
The Sustainability Plan was drafted by the Cool Cities Committee with the review and support of the City Council, Planning Commission, and Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission. The timeline for implementation of policies and projects will vary based on ease of implementation, availability of resources, funding commitments, and impacts or urgency. The plan will be reviewed by the Cool Cities Committee on an annual basis to review polices and projects that are not started, in progress, complete, or require amendments.
