Greenhouse Gas Inventory
In 2021, the City of Collinsville partnered with Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville (SIUE) to establish baseline measures for carbon emissions within the community and city operations through the creation of a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory. The city developed a GHG inventory to contribute to the City’s sustainability plan, which will help measure future progress on reducing GHG emissions, and identify target areas for emission reduction. The City will conduct future GHG inventories every three (3) years to measure progress, as well as create a climate action plan to establish goals for reduction.
Inventory Tracks
Collinsville has created both the community-wide and government-operations tracks to have a more comprehensive inventory. The base year for the Collinsville inventory is 2019 because 2020 would not accurately represent the City’s emissions due to reductions in activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The community-scale track includes energy, transportation & mobile sources, solid waste, water & wastewater, and agricultural activities, while the government-scale track consists of building and facilities, streetlights and traffic signals, vehicle fleet, transit fleet, employee commute, electric power production, solid waste facilities, water, and wastewater treatment facilities.
