Limited “U” Permit
The most common type of building permit is a “Limited” or “U” Permit, which is used for roofing, siding, windows, pools, fences, decks, sheds, etc., whether residential or commercial. As a guideline, any exterior work valued at more than $500 is eligible for a “U” permit, although there are exceptions. Several “jobs” can be included on the same permit for the same fee, such as roof, windows, gutters, pool, and fence The cost is always $50 unless noted otherwise, regardless of the cost of the work. A Limited “U” Permit is valid for six (6) months. The following Items are also included on the U Permit:
Demolition
The demolition of residential and commercial structures, including mobile/modular homes, garages, carports, and sheds, as well as interior commercial tenant spaces prior to a new tenant finish, requires a “D” permit. The cost of the permit is $100 and is valid for 30 days, however, an extension may be granted at the discretion of the Chief Building Official.
Boarding of Buildings
The boarding of any building shall be reviewed and approved by the City prior to any boarding of windows, doors, or openings on a building. The cost of the permit is $100 and is valid for 90 days. Electrical Service Repair or New/Upgrade
All electrical service work requiring the involvement of Ameren or SW Electric requires an “U” Permit. The cost of the permit is based on the type of work done, and is listed on the application. Cost of the permit is $50 unless over 400 Amps.
